There are no upcoming Meetups.
This is book club for people who want to catch up on their modern classics such as Lolita, Catch-22 and On the Road. Book choices will be from the 20th century and on. We have a good group going so far, members coming from all over NYC. You do not have to live in Williamsburg to join! This is simply where the meet-ups will tend to be.
Introducing Stories & Spirits: a book club for booze lovers. We are two book lovers who enjoy the diversity and vibrance of New York's bar scene. So we're starting a book club that takes full advantage of it! We will discuss books in bars that reflect their themes, historical contexts, and cultural heritages. Think Drown at La Marina in Washington Heights. Or The Tiger's Wife at KGB Bar in the East Village. The Museum of Innocence at ilili in the Flatiron District. Or even Blood Meridian at Honk …
Each month, we will read and discuss and/or write about a great classic written by various American or European authors. Some of these books we may have read as children or teens, others may be new to us, but all have had a significant impact on readers around the globe and are worth a read, or even a second read. We will meet at a coffee/tea shop or a wine bar each month to discuss the book of the month and share anything we have written about the book, if designated as an optional assignment.
Welcome to the Washington/Hudson Heights Book Club, we're glad you're here. A bit about us… About Us We're uptown readers in the Washington and Hudson Heights neighborhoods who love to read. We're looking for other book folk to read with us, share food, drink and have conversation. We're laid back, pretty hilarious, and love books. Nothing stuffy about us. About Book Club We're a group who mixes it up by exploring a range of authors/genres -- fiction, memoir, debuts, classics, cultural, horror, …
Meet with other book lovers once a month to discuss a chosen piece of literature (fiction, nonfiction, biography, contemporary, classic novels- depends on what we all vote on!) over drinks or a bite to eat. This is a great chance to meet other local people who share your love for books. Books will be chosen by the group, so feel free to recommend anything you are interested in reading.
Once upon a time, two recent graduates decided they wanted to read something other than romance novels for a change (or not...). So, they started this group in hopes of finding other people with a passion for reading, and a willingness to embark upon a most ambitious quest: to read as much great/classic literature as possible. We are now embarking upon our 5th year and have left many great books in our wake and pursue many others in the horizon beyond us. And, thus we continue the endless quest …
Meet kindred book lovers in the Bergen/Rockland County area. While we occasionally read modern classics (Lolita, Catch-22), we read mostly classic works written before 1950 (check our calendar to sample our book selection). We emphasize novels and plays important within the history of literature or have some historical interest. We have friendly, topical discussions about what we enjoyed, didn't enjoy, and found interesting in our reading while making some literate friends in the process. GROUP …
The Columbia-Chicago Great Books Clubs gather people who want to read, or re-read, classics of western civilization, from Genesis and The Iliad to modern classics such as Karl Polanyi's "The Great Change" and Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time." The 2013-2014 theme is "Democracy," with readings from Aeschylus, Aristotle, St. Augustine, John Milton, The Federalist Papers, deTocqueville and John Stuart Mill. We will not be considering the great 17th-20th century critiques of democracy; tha …
The Moderns evolved from a book club devoted to reading Hemingway and his peers. In 2013, our fourth year of existence, we started choosing books from the Modern Library's list of the 100 best 20th Century English language novels. Please join us as we discover and reread some of the best works of the modern age. http://www.modernlibrary.com/top-100/100-best-novels/ Every discussion has drawn an interesting group of people from all walks of life and all ages. We typically meet the last Sunday of …
They just don't write em' like they used to! We'll have a casual chat about a new classic each time. We can meet whenever and wherever. Not all book clubs have to gather at a coffee shop :-) Some titles already on the list include Anna Karenina, Dracula and Catcher in the Rye. I want the rest of the group to pick some titles, as well. I'm going for a very laid-back kind of gathering. So, let's all put on our smarty pants and share a few laughs and conversation!
